I'm drawn to places of isolation. In a world filled with so much noise they bring me solace. There is something of comfort about being outside at a time when you can finally hear the sound of your own breath. I seek out opportunities to explore places of isolation. Whether it be out in the countryside, alone in the desert, or searching and walking city streets in the dead of night, they all provide me opportunity for reflection and wonderment. I become curious as to how that tree ended up growing alone. Why there? What goes on behind that lonely looking door? How are all these people staying at these old disintegrating motels in the rundown part of town? They can't be here for the nearby amusement park with their work trucks and cars filled with relics of a past existence. What is their story?

I used to limit myself to black and white as it seemed to more clearly communicate the emotion of the moment, but there is something just as emotional in the colors that peek out of the darkness of the night, or the moment. As a result, I've begun to mix the two after deciding what fits each experience.

There's a spiritual lesson in all this and spirit is what I believe above all else fascinates me. It's a constantly evolving process and when I find the answer and complete this quest I will probably no longer shoot. I hope that never happens, and I don't believe it ever will.
